Reduce Outside Noise

Everyday the world around us gets noisier. The sounds of everyday life come into a home through the glass in your windows and doors. It may be the neighbor mowing there lawn, or a busy highway nearby, a construction site or the sounds of airplanes above, sometimes it is nice to just get away and enjoy some peace and quite.   The design and components of impact windows and doors virtually eliminate unwanted sounds from outside. The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) established a system to rate the effectiveness of products for sound reduction. They are referred to as STC (Sound Transmission Class) ratings. The higher the rating the better the product is for eliminating unwanted sound.

The design and components of standard single pane windows do very little to eliminate unwanted sounds and have low STC ratings, while most of the new products incorporate laminated safety glass and gas filled air spaces perform very well and have high STC ratings.
